Take care on the roads as snows hit Strathaven again
26 JanuaryHeavy snowfalls have hit Strathaven as winter weather returned with a vengeance to the town, making roads and pavements treacherous.
The snow arrived mid-afternoon on Thursday (26th January), and quickly caused disruption on roads in and out of the town, with cars skidding on the lying snow as temperatures dropped.
On Facebook Lee MacLean said: "Newton Road, Moss Road etc NIGHTMARE!! Please take care everyone. Conditions on the road are worse than they look."
Amanda Hobbs said: "Just in from Glassford...roads pretty bad...some drivers worse!"
Lesley-Ann Newall said shortly before 5pm: "There has been a bad accident near Calderglen park heading towards Strathaven. Traffic held up over half and hour."
And Claire Ballantyne said on the Strathaven Facebook Group: "Hamilton Road is horrific, i just skidded and i was going slow, be very careful."
South Lanarkshire Council's roads department said on their Twitter feed: "Gritting from 12noon today then patrolling & gritting as required from 6pm to 4.30am"
