Strathaven historian and s1strathaven community correspondent Bob Currie has been researching the amazing story of Strathaven's own Russian Princess.

The story of the 'Russian Princess' has long been part of Strathaven folklore - but now thanks to Bob's painstaking research, the full, true story has been uncovered.

The story reveals the truth behind the myth of this enigmatic woman who, with her husband Scots musician and composer, Robert Machardy, settled in Strathaven in 1910. Theirs is a compelling rags to riches story in reverse.
