  • Hangarfest 2012

Another big event is coming to Strathaven this weekend, with the annual fly-in day at Strathaven Airfield being followed by the annual Hangarfest music festival.

The event is on Saturday 16th June, and kicks off at 2pm running to 5pm when you can enjoy the sight of a range of microlights and aeromodels soaring the air. Watch a hovercraft in action – and then listen to live music with local bands. There will be food, BBQ, drinks, Fairtrade tea and coffee.

Bands playing in the afternoon include Paul Gostelow - The Approximates - The Mike Doris band Skud, Pete & Lochie – Revolution.

Parking and entry donations will be accepted for Strathaven's charity ACT to help towards their "Large Play Project" and local community groups.

This afternoon event will be followed by Hangarfest from 7.30pm-11.30pm. Hangarfest is the closing musical event of the Strathaven folk and blues fly-in, featuring the best talent from the Strathaven area and beyond!

Featuring the best rock bands from Strathaven and beyond, Hangarfest will entertain you till the dark hours!

Tickets for Hangarfest are £10 each and are available from The Weavers, Craig’s newsagents and The Barbers Shop - however, there will also be a “pay on the gate” option.

Local bands set to play at Hangarfest include Derringer, Wasted Radio, Jaynestown and The Kitsch, for what should be a great night at the airfield.

8pm The Kitsch are one of Glasgow's up and coming new bands. The music produced by The Kitsch is like a cross between modern Indie Rock'n'Roll with a classic 70's psychedelic epic feel. Glasgow has always built up a strong reputation for producing great new music and The Kitsch up hold this hard earned rep with their rocking, heart felt & original melodies.
8.50pm Wasted Radio broke into the scene in 2009 with a stomping series of gigs across Glasgow and a booming debut album. The band played many gigs across Scotland culminating in the Edinburgh Fringe festival in 2009. However, after a serious car crash things were put on hold. Now, Wasted Radio are back and brighter than ever with a new album being recorded this year l. A real brand of original songwriting set in the honest streets in and around Glasgow city sets a backdrop where these young musicians seem to flourish.
9.40pm Jaynestown A new Rock n' Blues band from Lanarkshire and you'll be among the first to hear this exciting new band! Put you trust in Jaynestown, we think you'll like it.
10.30pm Derringer . A band that has been around longer than anyone can remember. They have entertained thousands if not tens of thousands over the years. These guys will get you on your feet and you wont stop dancing until your feet ache. Rock on and get the foot spa out for later.

Kaledon Naddair of The Celtic Music Review wrote "These are soulful Scottish songs that lift your spirits" Kevin will be joined on stage by some really rather good musicians. It might get a bit wild
10.40 The loft Monster. was formed in 2011 by a group of friends who are old enough to know better - but young enough not to care! The Loft Monster has a diverse range of instruments and voices at its disposal and whist they enjoy adding a few twists to some great old standards, Their real passion is for songwriting - love, life, politics, passion and humour are all food for The Loft Monster.
