Strathaven Bowling Club opens for 150th anniversary season
30 April, 2012More than 200 members and guests turned out to celebrate the opening day of the new season at Strathaven Bowling Club on Saturday - and it was a special celebration, as this year marks the club’s celebrates its 150th anniversary.
President Tom Milne welcomed players and visitors, which saw the largest attendance for many years at the season opener. Tom’s wife Isa threw out the ceremonial first bowl of the season, before declaring the green open.
To mark the anniversary occasion, the opening was attended by representatives of Bowls Scotland, Lanarkshire Bowling Association, Lanarkshire Bowling League, Larkhall and District League, Councillors, and representatives of many other clubs from around the area.
After the ceremony, it was a busy day on the green, with 112 playing in the first matches of the season.
