Snowflake fundraiser to support top Strathaven skier Pamela
6 SeptemberOne of Strathaven's top athletes is holding a special fundraising event to help keep her at the top of her sport, after the UK governing body collapsed into administration.
Top ski racer Pamela Thorburn was left high and dry when, immediately before the start of the 2010 Olympic Games the British Governing body for ski racing - Snowsports GB - collapsed.
The organisation had previously funded the training and coaching of the UK's elite skiers, leaving them without the backing to compete.
However, Pamela now has the chance to train with the Canadian team - which is welcome, but means she will have to raise more funding to meet the training costs.
To help raise funding for the new season, Pamela is hosting a very special 'Snowflake Fundraiser' evening of dinner, dancing and entertainment in the Grand Central Hotel on Hope Street, Glasgow on Saturday 9th October.
This black tie event will start with a champagne reception followed by dinner, an auction with some exceptional lots, tombola with great prizes, and then dancing into the small hours.
Tickets for the dinner are now available, costing £75 each. For more details email lindat@greystoneplumbing.co.uk or call 01357 522037.
Pamela is a dedicated athlete, training and racing from October till April on snow, and continuing with dry land training during the summer months, as well as on snow in the southern hemisphere.
