Round Table serves up a great winter lunch for Strathaven seniors

  • 125 seated for their winter lunch at the Strathaven Hotel
  • A subset of the many dancers that entertained everyone after the meal

More than 120 seniors were welcomed to the Strathaven Hotel on Sunday as Strathaven & District Round Table Seniors held their 2012 Winter Lunch.

This year the guys delivered another stunning event, designed to bring a little cheer to the older people in our community during the dark winter months that follow Christmas.

This year over 120 were invited thanks to an increased community grant from South Lanarkshire Council. The three course lunch delivered in normal spectacular style at the Strathaven Hotel saw all fed and watered, followed by an afternoon of entertainment.

2011/12 Vice Chair and PR lead, Tabler Graeme Campbell said, “I’d like to thank so many this year for supporting the event from Wendy & Heather’s Dance School, the Strathaven Pipe-Band and the Strathaven Academy choir led by their fantastic music teacher Duncan MacKay, who all put on a fantastic show that followed the lunch.”

Graeme went on to thank Sheila and her superb staff at the Strathaven Hotel for another fantastic meal, Roger Lee from William Grant & Sons Distillers for supplying the Glenfiddich miniatures and finally Bill & Yvonne from the Strathaven Echoes for printing the tickets.

Despite the SLC grant, this event still cost the Strathaven Round Table more than £1,500 to put on, money raised by the dedicated group of hard working lads from Strathaven & District Round Table. The Round Table are urgently looking for more support and are calling out for any men between the age of 20 and 40, who could give up a few hours a month to helping their community and enjoying the camaraderie of a bunch of likeminded guys, to please get in touch. Unless our Round Table in Strathaven gets new blood, they will struggle to raise money to put on fantastic events for the old people in our community.
