2 MarchThe club would also like to thank the people of Strathaven who kindly donated over £550 during their bag pack in the Co-op. The money will be forwarded to the charity End Polio Now. The club would also like to thank the Co-op for allowing the collection in the store.
At last week's meeting of the Rotary Club Hamilton College Head Boy, Alex Richards recounted the developments between his school and the West African state of Burkino Faso.
Two years ago Hamilton College established a partnership with the British Council. Alex is one of 11 pupils and five adults from Hamilton College who will visit Burkina Faso this summer.
The aim of the group is to teach English and music to more than 1000 pupils as well as building a bike shed and installing solar panels which will give enough energy to run a fridge thereby keeping vital medication at the correct temperature.
Burkina Faso situated in West Africa is by United Nations standards the 3rd poorest country in the world. The life expectancy of men is 51 and women 54 years of age. Hamilton College established a link with the country in 2008 through the TEAR fund "Transform" and AEAD.
Club members wished Alex and his peers a successful trip.
