24/6/2009Rotarians enjoy quiz night
The club was visited on this occasion by Assistant District Governor John Waddell of the Eastwood club and by a group of six Rotarians from the Alloa club led by Douglas Aitken.
Past President of the Strathaven Club, Willie Cooper, treated members to a glass of wine in celebration his birthday.
A letter from the Gala Committee, thanking Rotarians for their assistance in stewarding at the gala, was read out. President Maher thanked members for their service on that occasion sayng it had been great fun and a good advert for Rotary. An experience definitely to be repeated.
Past President Nigel Thomson reported on the this time unsuccessful efforts of the club's golf team at a tournament at Dunblane New Golf Club.
The evening's entertainment was provided by Past President Jim McKay in the form of a Scottish quiz consisting of some searching and amusing questions. A close contest led to a three-way tie but after a tie-breaker the eventual winners were a team consisting of Tom Cumming, Ian Gilmour, George Jamieson and Frank Riggs - the last named being a visitor from Alloa.
The prize was a most appropriate bag os "Smarties". The winners of the booby prize have requested anonymity but a local educationalist was amongst them !
The vote of thanks was rendered in inimitable fashion by Past President Jim McGowan who thanked Jim for a quiz which had been educational as well as fun.
Next week sees the club change president when Tony Mitchell takes over from Maher Hadidi.
There will be a photo opportunity in the Hotel Foyer at 7.15 on that evening.
