Queen Megan set for royal day at Glassford Gala 2012
13 June, 2012After the success of this year’s Strathaven Gala, you can enjoy more of the Gala spirit with this weekend’s Glassford Gala – maybe smaller, but just as much fun!
This year’s Glassford Gala Day is on Saturday 16th June, with the parade starting at 12.20pm after judging of the floats. The Gala Court Ceremony will be at 1.15pm, with Audrey Donnelly, Glassford Primary Head Teacher performing the opening ceremony.
This year’s Gala Queen will be Megan Whyte, retiring queen is Sophie Dorricot, Queen's lord is Alexander Smith and flower girls are Lauryn Urquhart and Hayley Dorricot.
Music starts at 2pm on the stage. We've got stalls, bouncy castle, football finals, sports events, tug of war, raffle, tombola and catering.
Organising committee member Les Hoggan said: “We're looking for as many floats as possible, decorated houses and scarecrows. We're also looking for donations of prizes for the raffle and the tombola and have had a very generous donation of prizes by Tommy and Stephen from the Glassford Inn and the Steayban. The more prizes and donations we get the better.
“All donations of homebaking for the Dining Hall on Saturday will be gratefully received.
“Thanks to Liz Rodie we now have enough acts to fill over two hours of live music on Saturday. These are all local acts, so hopefully everyone will enjoy this new part of Gala Day.
“We also have more stalls than ever in the park and are planning lots of family fun on the day as well in terms of races and tug of war, plus other activities including throw the welly.
“Hopefully the weather will be kind, but we have contingency plans in place in the event it isn't, and all suitable activities can be transferred to the Village Hall if required.”
Good luck – and hopefully good weather – for all at Glassford Gala – share your photos, and memories of previous Glassford Galas here on s1strathaven
