Michael McCann will succeed Adam Ingram MP (seen here on election night 2005) as Labour candidate
Michael McCann has been announced as the Labour candidate for the East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow constituency, after former defence minister Adam Ingram decided to stand down as MP at the forthcoming general election.
McCann, a former civil servant and trade union official, is currently a member of South Lanarkshire Council, representing the East Kilbride West ward. He is also a parliamentary aide to Adam Ingram.
Adam Ingram has been the MP for Strathaven (under various constituency boundaries) since 1987, and won the seat in 2005 with a majority of nearly 15,000. He was was Minister of State at the Northern Ireland office from 1997 to 2001, and Armed Forces minister from 2001 until 2007.
