Great response to Strathaven Scout meeting appeal - but more help needed
18 June, 2012The committee at the Strathaven Scout and Guide Centre have welcomed a ‘brilliant response’ to the campaign to get more members on board and secure the centre’s future - but more help is still needed to make sure the centre can keep running properly.
After an emergency meeting held at the centre last week, committee member Simon Jardine said: “We have had a brilliant response to our campaign to get more volunteers on board. We have a new chairperson for the hall management committee and at least four new committee members.
“The Guide fundraisers have recruited at least three new members, and we should have some new Brownie and Guide leaders and we have also had people volunteer for the four workdays a year where we concentrate on hall maintenance.
“Lots of people have also volunteered to help as and when needed so we will be in touch with them shortly.
“We are still looking for some potential Scout/Cub leaders and people to help with fundraising for the Scouts and Cubs. Please step forward if you haven't already!
“Remember, many hands make light work!! The hall is a major community asset which is open for everyone to use, not just the scout and guide movement.”
If you can help, or to find out more call Simon Jardine on 07931 674553 or email simon.jardine@hotmail.co.uk
