Glassford school kids celebrate Burns Night
31 JanuaryThe youngsters at Glassford Primary School got a taste of tradition in song, verse and food last week when they held the school’s first Burn Supper in the church hall.
The Burns Supper was the first of its kind for Glassford Primary School and was to give the children a wee taste of what Burns Night is all about. To say it was a success was putting it mildly!
The children all performed beautifully and were met with rapturous applause. The piper, Sandy Hall, piped the haggis in and the Address was delivered by one of the dads, Graeme Carswell. We had a dancing display from former pupil Abigail Miller who is now at Strathaven Academy and who danced beautifully.
The children all practised very very hard for this and have already asked can they do the same again next year - only bigger!
The school received donations from A G Barr who provided us with Scotland's other national drink, Irn Bru (!), McGuire's Fruiterers from Strathaven donated the neeps and tatties, and Alexander & Son, Butchers, donated haggis for the evening. Lots of parents donated shortbread, tablet, tartan bows and generally made lots of noise for everyone taking part.
A special mention goes to Andy McIntosh and his "lassies" (Ali, Liz, Helen, Fiona, Sandra, Jinty) for their sterling efforts in and out of the kitchen.
