Family's life on Strathaven farm features in new BBC documentary
25 AugustA Strathaven family is to feature in a new BBC documentary, telling the remarkable story of their decision to set up a poultry farm after the family business collapsed.
For over three generations P&C Morris had been supplying quality food and ingredients to Scotland's top hotels and restaurants.
They were a hugely influential and successful business with a turnover in the millions. As such they were encouraged to grow and develop with big loans and investment from the banks. When the economy started to slump however, support from the banks became more and more elusive and at the start of February 2009 the business ceased being able to trade. Two weeks later and after 40 years of trading, P&C Morris called in the administrators.
This is the story of what happened next. With no income and huge personal guarantees hanging over their heads, the family - who live near Strathaven - needed a new way of making a living in order to survive. So they decided to set up a poultry farm.
A Family Business, which is made by True Vision North, sees their story through the eyes of 11-year-old Joshua Morris. It follows the family working round the clock, building the sheds, receiving their first batch of chicks and tying desperately to keep the wolves from the door.
You can see the programme, 'A Family Business' will be on BBC Two Scotland on Monday 30th August at 9pm - and will be available on the BBC iplayer for seven days after that.
