whatever happened to picnics

by archie cross

i know i am sounding a bit to nostalgic but during the summer i took my little grandson up the old river route to the crags we never met a soul all very deserted unlike our summers in the 60,s people taking there picnics up to the crags /or just to rest by the burn same at broons brig or at the spec.e falls we just dont seem to appreciate what we have around strathaven beutfull walks nature and the best scenery all we seem to do now is drive as fast as we can to get home ohh bring back the 1960,s slower pace of life and no agro on our quiet roads a few morris minors and my uncle willies ford pilot which always turned heads in strathaven with aunt isa in her fur coat even in the middle of summer lets hear some more nostalgic memories  all the best archie

yeah, those were the days boys, we used to go out the "bumpy road"  to the "dam" to swim in the ", hole", down to the frew steps to walk across the "barrels", up the "spe e falls" back down to the "dam" then on up to the "davy dancers" to muck about, along to the "shuggly brig" across the fields back home for our tea, our mum/dads never seen us all day. and we walked all the way. we would play in the "old jail" then go guddling in the "washing green/up to the park". computers, never heard of them then. we actually had fun.

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
