Avendale Old Parish Church

  • The current Avendale Old Parish Church was opened in 1772

The current Avendale Old Parish church was built on its Kirk Street site in 1772, with the previous church having been known as St Mary's, and sited on the area opposite the castle, roughly where the telephone exchange is today.

The parish of Avendale itself was established in the 11th or 12th century, and earliest records of a church in Strathaven date back to 1288 - whereabouts unknown, but possibly at Threestanes or Kirklandpark.

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
