The Flour Store Gallery

The Flour Store Gallery at Taylor's

Strathaven's newest art gallery, The Flour Store, opens with a special pre-Christmas exhibition and sale featuring work by artists and jewellers from Scotland and Northern Ireland.

'Makers', a vibrant collection of artwork, textile jewellery and silversmithing, will be held in the converted flour store of the town's oldest family business, artisan bakers Alexander Taylor's.The exhibition will run from November 14 to 16.

All the featured artists have links with Strathaven. The exhibition will include pieces by Ruth Jones from Northern Ireland, who works in oils and pastels and has just had a painting accepted by the National Gallery of Northern Ireland; well-known artists Eleanor and Alan Sims from Edinburgh, whose jewellery and paintings will be on display; and silversmith Rebecca Wright from Tiree, with her stunning fused glass and silver inspired by her island home.

The exhibition will also feature work by a local woodturner. All pieces will be for sale.

The gallery, a former flour store for Taylor's the Bakers, was converted by Claire and Barry Taylor, who met at art school before taking over the family business.Taylor's family-friendly cafe, just around the corner, is open seven days a week serving coffees, teas and lunches.
