Crosshill Road Twenty Is Plenty Campaign

I would like to see 20mph cautionary speed signs placed at the entrance to Crosshill Road, Strathaven at it's junction with Lethame Road up to and including the stretch past Crosshill Crescent.

Every day especially during peak periods on Crosshill Road cars can be observed driving at excessive speeds up this stretch of road as a short cut to Colinhill Road.

A request was made to the road safety dept of South Lanarkshire council in August 2009, their reply intimated that nothing would be done on the back of one resident of the area requesting appropriate signage etc.

I live on Crosshill Road and feel most drivers drive too fast for the road type and possible hazards.

There is no way a driver would have any chance of stopping in time should a child or dog enter the roadway from any of the properties along the stretch of road as aforementioned.

I wish to garner the support of all residents in this area and invite you all to contact South Lanarkshire council using the details below to express your desire to see the road marked up as a 20's plenty area.

With many thanks in advance.

Hi Scott - you might also want to approach Kirklandpark's Parent Council for support for this and also join the Strathaven Group on Facebook so that you can gather support there too (we have over 500 members there). I'm copying some of your posts there already. The address is http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=68901732741&v=app_2344061033#!/group.php?gid=68901732741

Update, after  a freedom of information request to SLC, it seems 2 people have raised concerns so far in line with this campaign. I reckon the next thing on the agenda would be a door to door canvas and a personal reminder to garner opinion. Full details of SLC FOI details when I have had time to digest and disseminate it all.

Upon canvassing it has been mooted that a motion to block off Crosshill Road to traffic only at it's junction with the end of Bowling Green Rd would be the only way to safeguard the residents of the stretch of Crosshill Rd concerned with this campaign from speeding short cut takers. Anyone else think this is the way to go?
